The recruitment process in Primark consists of several stages, on each of which we are elaborating below:
After your résumé and application have been screened, you will receive an invitation for a phone interview. You will be contacted by Primark’s Human Resources representative who will ask you questions about your education and work experience. Expect also to answer competency-based questions. Before you make an appointment for your phone interview, go over your résumé. You obviously know by heart what courses you took while studying and where you worked before applying for a position at Primark. Yet still, it will help you to answer questions clearly and quickly, if you refresh your memory about all milestones in your career before you answer a call from the Primark’s representative. Prepare also to talk about your career goals in the new workplace. On average, the telephone interview takes up to forty minutes, because recruiters want to understand what qualities applicants possess and whether they should be invited to tests or a face-to-face interview.
Depending on the position for which you applied, you may be asked to pass one or several tests. As a rule, these tests are administered to measure your numerical, verbal, or logical skills, all of which might prove indispensable for working in the retail industry. Our exclusive PrepPack™ contains accurate simulations of the following tests:
The Numerical Reasoning Test – This test evaluates how well you understand information presented in statistical tables, graphs, and diagrams. After having studied this information for a few moments, you will be asked to answer question related to it, which will appear on the right side of your screen. Each answer contains several options from which you can choose, only one of which is right. The Numerical Reasoning Test is strictly timed. You will have only around a minute to answer each question. No calculators are usually permitted. You will be allowed to use only a scrap of a paper and a pencil to make your calculations.
The Verbal Reasoning Test – This test measures how well you understand written information. You will be given a short passage of the text to scan quickly. On the right side of your computer screen, you will see statements made about the passage you have just read. You will need to evaluate the truth-value of these statements in relation to the information revealed in the given passage. If you think that the statement is borne out by the text, you will need to mark it as “True.” If the statement runs counter to what is written in the text, tick it off as “False.” Bear in mind also that sometimes it will be impossible to evaluate the truth-value of the given statement, due to the insufficiency of the information presented in the passage. If you cannot determine whether the statement is true or false, choose the “Impossible to Say” option. The Verbal Reasoning Test is also timed. You will have less than a minute to answer each question.
The Logical Reasoning Test – This is a kind of psychometric testing that measures job candidates’ mental abilities, logical reasoning, and non-verbal skills. Most often than not, this test features non-verbal content; in other words, job applicants need to interpret and manipulate shapes, numbers, and patterns. The Logical Reasoning Test is a multiple-choice assessment. There are several answers to every question, only one of which is correct. You will be given less than a minute to analyze each graph or shape.
Good results on the tests ensure that a job candidate is called for an in-person interview. The face-to-face interview is usually conducted in Primark itself. Be prepared to have a conversation with the Human Resources managers, supervisors of different departments, and customer service representatives. Questions posed during the in-person interview are competency-based. Primark’s employers will want to know how well you will perform in the position for which you compete. They will also ask you behavioral and situational questions. Before you enter the interview room, think about a specific difficult situation that you faced in your previous workplace and which you needed to resolve. In your answers, elaborate on this situation and actions you undertook to set it right, and, in so doing, demonstrate your decision-making skills and your logical thinking. You will deliver more comprehensive answers, if you follow either the STAR or the CAR formats. Consisting of several clearly defined stages, these methods will allow you to impress your interlocutors with your ability to work through various difficulties in your workplace.
Note that sometimes you will be invited for several face-to-face interviews before the final hiring decision will be made. If you receive a job offer, you may start negotiating your salary. Do not ruin your employment chances by coming to your interview at Primark unprepared.
