Bank Teller Interview Tips

As with any interview, it is important to be on time for your teller interview. Make sure to come about ten minutes early to ensure punctuality. You want to give the impression that you are a professional, so dress like one! Dress in a businesslike manner and don’t wear too much makeup, perfume, or jewelry. Bring copies of your resume as your interviewer may ask to see it. Come to the interview prepared to answer position related questions and with a basic knowledge of the company and the position and have in mind questions to ask your interviewer.

Bank Teller Interview Questions

A majority of the questions you will be asked at your bank teller interview will be relevant to being a bank teller. You will also be asked why you want to be a bank teller and about your previous experiences with customer service, cash handling, and bank products. Many bank teller interviews also include situational (role play) exercises and behavioral questions.

While banks tend to have their own uniquely tailored interview process, the interview questions for a bank teller are similar among most banks. However, some banks do have a specially designed bank teller hiring process in order to hire the best tellers.

The following is a list of common bank teller interview questions:

  • Why are you interested in being a bank teller?
  • What attracts you to our bank?
  • Do you have experience working in a bank?
  • Why should you be hired to work at this bank?
  • How will you make a positive contribution to our bank?
  • Tell me what you know about this bank.
  • What would you do or say to persuade a customer to become our client?
  • Tell me about a time you had a successful sales experience.
  • What characteristics do you think are needed to be a good teller?
  • What have you done beyond the call of duty for a customer?
  • How have you coped with and helped an angry customer? Was the problem resolved?
  • If you saw a coworker take money that belonged to the bank, what would you do?
  • What banking products are you experienced with on a personal level?

In addition to the above teller interview questions, you will likely be asked typical job interview questions, such as:

  • Tell me about yourself...
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years?
