What Is the Ramsay Electrical Test (ElecTest)?

The Electrical Maintenance Test is a pre-employment test conducted for candidates for electrician and electrical maintenance jobs. Therefore, it is also often referred to as an Electrical Maintenance Test.

The test is administered by Ramsay Corporation, the world’s leading provider of professional and mechanical assessments.

The minimal fuse rating should be higher than the normal operating current of the system. Since an electrical system is connected in parallel, the total current in the system when all three appliances are working is the sum of all three.

The current consumption of each appliance is calculated by:

  • V = Voltage [Volt]

What Is the Passing Score on the Ramsay Electrical Test?

There is no clean-cut passing score for the ElecTest, and that score depends on the specific position you applied to, as well as the mean score of other candidates.

However, according to the official test statistics provided by Ramsay Corporation, the estimated passing score of the Ramsay Electrical Test is around 40/60. That calculation is based on an average score of 32/60 and a standard deviation of 9.5.

That score might seem low, but it contains the top 20% of test scores, the common threshold on pre-employment tests.

How to Practice and Pass the ElecTest

Reading and interpreting electrical schematics is one of the major topics on the Ramsay Electrical Test. In fact, this topic alone (combined with control circuits) constitutes nearly 20% of the test questions.

Make sure you have a very good understanding of the various annotations and symbols used in electrical prints, ladder logic schematics, etc. It is invaluable for your success on the test.

Although the Ramsay Electrical Test puts great emphasis on practical knowledge, it is, after all, a written test. As such, many questions will deal with the theoretical foundations and definitions of topics included.

That is one of these areas where job experience can actually harm your chances – since the theory is often not required in day-to-day work, many experienced candidates tend to forget these concepts over the years.
