About DeCA

With a network of around 260 grocery stores worldwide, the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) operates a chain of commissaries for military personnel, retirees and their families. These commissaries help improve the quality of life for America's military and their families.

The DeCA Recruitment Process

The stages involved in the hiring process are listed below.

  • Online Application: Jobs at DeCA can be found by searching online on USAjobs for your career of interest. After which you may upload your up-to-date resume as well.
  • Telephone Interview: An HR recruiter will give you a call once your resume is reviewed. A brief phone interview will ensue to get acquainted and discuss the job position.
  • In-Person Interview: You will be invited for an in-person interview which may entail more than one stage. The interview process may be held with the general store manager and the grocery manager.
  • Tests: Psychometric pre-employment exams may be necessary in order to sufficiently prepare for the DeCA assessment process.

DeCA Test Preparation

Taking practice aptitude tests will help you brush up on your cognitive abilities and skill set before the evaluations. Entrance exams such as the mathematical test are often conducted by companies to assess candidates’ algebraic capabilities and data analysis. The verbal test contains paragraphs which focus on written comprehension skills. Personality and behavioral assessments may be performed for candidates to build their personality profile and locate the character traits and behavioral patterns which will be a positive addition to the workplace.

DeCA Interview Questions

Throughout the DeCA interview, applicants may be asked competency-based questions where they will be asked to illustrate actions they took in the past in different workplace scenarios. Some interview question examples are:

  • Give an example of a time when you had to persuade someone and what was the outcome?
  • Why do you think you are a good fit for this position?
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  • What is your experience with customer service and handling upset customers?

Replying by using the “STAR” method is a great way to answer interview questions. First describe the Situation, the Task involved, the Action you took and then the Result which occurred.
