The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) is a short-form examination of basic verbal and quantitative skills designed mainly to help in assessing candidates for entry-level positions.


What Is the WBST Used for?

The test is usually used for positions where job duties involve relatively simple calculations and/or usage of written or oral communication skills.


What is the Format and Structure of the WBST?

The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test consists of two sections: verbal (50 questions) and quantitative (45 questions). Each section is 20 minutes long. Some workplaces only use one part of the test, according to their specific needs.


What Other Programs Use the BST?

In addition to job assessment, the Basic Skills Test can be used to assess a candidate's program eligibility. The WBST is used by Subway for individuals interested in owning a franchise and for some nursing programs. Additionally, a version of the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test is also used for the Ability-to-Benefit program.

Wonderlic WBST - Ability-to-Benefit Version

The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test – Ability-to-Benefit is the most commonly used assessment for students who don't have a high school diploma but who would still benefit from higher education. The Ability-To-Benefit Test is accepted by the U.S. Department of Education for all ATB Title IV programs. Structured like the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test, the Ability to Benefit version is designed to evaluate new students for post-high school program eligibility.
