The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) is a short-form examination of basic verbal and quantitative skills designed mainly to help in assessing candidates for entry-level positions.
The test is usually used for positions where job duties involve relatively simple calculations and/or usage of written or oral communication skills.
The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test consists of two sections: verbal (50 questions) and quantitative (45 questions). Each section is 20 minutes long. Some workplaces only use one part of the test, according to their specific needs.
In addition to job assessment, the Basic Skills Test can be used to assess a candidate's program eligibility. The WBST is used by Subway for individuals interested in owning a franchise and for some nursing programs. Additionally, a version of the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test is also used for the Ability-to-Benefit program.

The Ability-To-Benefit Test is accepted by the U.S. Department of Education for all ATB Title IV programs. Structured like the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test, the Ability to Benefit version is designed to evaluate new students for post-high school program eligibility.
