The Hiring Process at Utica Insurance

The hiring process can take up to 3 weeks or more and it consists of two main steps. Utica National Insurance looks for people with excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong presentation skills, strong negotiations skills and outstanding interpersonal skills. It requires an analytical mind, creativity and strong PC skills. To make sure their candidates possess these skills, Utica Insurance conducts many tests and interviews.

The Tests at Utica Insurance

At first, you are sent a personality questionnaire to test your problem-solving skills. Further, more specific test are to be conducted for specific positions.

  • To test your problem-solving skills, there is a high chance that you will need to take the Cubiks Problem Solving test. This test is comprised of 24 questions which you’ll have to answer in a four-minute time frame. Once the four minutes have elapsed, there will be no opportunity to go back.
  • Another probable test that you may come across is the Hogan Personality Inventory which is aimed at measuring your personality. It assesses how you relate to others and whether you are a leader or a follower.

The Interviews at Utica Insurance

During the interview, they will “try to uncover evidence of certain essential, or core, characteristics that must be present in the ideal candidate.” The questions you’ll be asked and the answers you’ll give will attempt at assessing many things like:

  • Your ability to work with a group of people
  • Whether you are a self-starter or whether you need direction
  • Whether you are capable of overcoming obstacles
  • Whether you can manage multiple priorities to accomplish specific goals

Common Interview Questions

Some of the questions asked during these interviews can be:

  • What do you know about the insurance industry?
  • What kind of people have you worked with and how did you relate to them?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses in dealing with people who have less experience than you?
  • This job requires strong problem-solving skills. Give me an example of a difficult problem you had to solve and how you did it.
