Measured Success at McCann Associates

Through its Measured Success flagship, McCann Associates provides basic Public Safety selection solutions. The Measured Success assessment is a computer-based exam. The McCann Measured Success test battery includes four subtests:

  • Interpreting Text Material
  • Reasoning Ability
  • Observation Test
  • Map Reading Test

The McCann Entry Level Police Exam reflects the criteria needed for law enforcement.

The McCann Firefighter Test is a wholly separate entity consisting of cognitive aptitudes that address the skillset needed for firefighting tasks.


McCann Entry Level Police Exam

Utilized at many police departments throughout the U.S., McCann Associates has established a highly standardized written exam that measures the work behaviors, attitudes, characteristics, abilities and skills essential for effective performance of law enforcement positions. Booklet I contains an observation/memory portion that is contained in. Your abilities to observe details and memorize what you view are tested through the examination of a picture for a short period of time. After the picture question is removed you will be directed to answer questions requiring you to recall of information, analysis or conclusions to be drawn based on the information found in the picture. There are 30 short items, to be answered within a timeframe of 25 minutes.

Booklet II consists of 70 questions and has a time limit of 2 hours. The questions are about observation skills, reasoning and judgment. Your tasked with selecting best answer out of five alternatives. The last 11 questions in this Booklet, regarding text interpretation, are a bit longer. Therefore, as you keep track of time and pace yourself, leave enough time to complete these final items.

Your score is based solely on the number of correct answers. Since there is no penalty for wrong answers, make sure that you respond to every question; guess if necessary. Keep in mind that no prior police training or experience is necessary for any of the answers. Most questions concern police scenarios.


McCann Entry Level Firefighter Exam

The McCann Firefighter test consists of 100 questions with a time period of 2 hours. Expect a wide range of skills and abilities including:

  • Information Ordering
  • Deductive Reasoning
  • Situational Judgment Questions
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Inductive Reasoning
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Spatial Orientation (Maps)
  • Mathematics

Other elements of the McCann Firefighter Exam involve the interpretation of tables and texts; teamwork in conjunction with compatibility; mechanical aptitude, including graphic displays and text descriptions; and spatial orientation.
