Hi,
The McKinsey Solve Game, also called the PSG, measures two main things: what you achieve and how you get there.
The first is your product score. This is the outcome of your decisions during the game. Did your ecosystem survive? Did you interpret the data correctly? These are the final results you deliver.
The second is your process score, which can be just as important. McKinsey looks at how efficiently and consistently you made those decisions. How much time did you spend thinking before acting? Did you follow a clear plan, or jump between options? These patterns show how you handle complexity, pressure, and uncertainty.
Both scores matter. I have seen strong candidates miss out not because they made the wrong choice, but because their process showed hesitation or inconsistency.
Currently, most candidates face the Ecosystem and Redrock games, but some also encounter a third game called Sea Wolf, which is part of a pilot. Even if you do not see it in your test, practicing the skills from the first two games, such as planning ahead, filtering information, and staying organized, will help you adapt if it appears.
Practicing with a realistic PSG simulation lets you track both your results and your approach. Over time, you will see which traits you can improve, like focus, planning, and decision-making speed.
It is not about playing perfectly. It is about showing the mindset McKinsey looks for in real consulting projects.
