Hi,
If your performance on the Solve Game does not meet McKinsey’s expectations, it is unlikely that you will be invited to the next stage of the hiring process.
The Solve Game is more than just a screening step. It is a key part of how the firm evaluates problem-solving skills, decision making under pressure, and overall cognitive style. While McKinsey does not publish a clear pass or fail score, your results are compared to benchmarks based on successful consultants. If your performance aligns closely with those benchmarks, recruiters may move you forward. If not, even a strong resume often will not be enough to compensate.
In most cases, not passing the Solve Game ends the process for that recruitment cycle. You will usually need to wait about 12 months before applying again, whether through direct application, referral, or campus recruiting.
This is why preparation is so important. Practicing with realistic simulations can help you understand how the game works, avoid surprises, and build the habits McKinsey is looking for.
