The OET has four sub-tests: Listening (about 45 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (45 minutes), and Speaking (about 20 minutes), which together take roughly three hours. Listening and Reading are the same for every profession, while Writing and Speaking use scenarios from your own profession.
The OET is accepted for healthcare registration and employment in countries including the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. Each country, and often each regulator within it, sets its own required grades, so check the requirement for your profession.

The OET has no single pass mark. Required scores vary depending on your profession, destination country, and licensing authority. Each sub-test is scored from 0 to 500 and converted to a grade from A to E, and your regulator decides the grade you need. Grade B is 350 - 440 and Grade C+ is 300 - 340.
The grade you need is set by your regulator, not by OET, and it varies by profession and country. Grade B (350 - 440 on OET’s 0 - 500 scale) is the most common requirement.
For example, the UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requires at least Grade B in Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and at least Grade C+ (300 - 340) in Writing, while the UK’s General Medical Council (GMC) requires Grade B in all four sub-tests on the Medicine version.
Regulators in other countries, such as Australia’s AHPRA and Ireland’s NMBI, set their own requirements. Always confirm the current requirement with your regulator before you book your test.
