When you pass the FACT exam, your certificate is valid for 24 months (2 years) and is accepted by all OFAI municipal partners across Ontario. This means one successful FACT result allows you to apply to Toronto Fire Services, Ottawa Fire Services, York Region, Peel Region, Durham Region, and any other department using the OFAI system—without retaking the exam each time.

Your 24-month certificate gives you flexibility to apply during multiple recruitment cycles across different municipalities. Once uploaded to your OFAI account within 72 hours of passing, you can download and submit your certificate to as many departments as you choose during that two-year period. This portability is unique to Ontario's centralized OFAI system and makes the FACT different from location-specific exams used in other provinces or the United States.

If you don't pass the FACT on your first attempt, you must wait 15 days before retaking the exam. If you fail a second time (or any subsequent attempt), the waiting period increases to 30 days. These mandatory waiting periods are set by OFAI to give candidates time to properly prepare and address weak areas.

Here's what makes preparation critical: you will NOT receive your results immediately after the exam, and you won't be told your specific score or which sections you struggled with. If you pass, your certificate appears in your OFAI account within 72 hours. If you fail, you'll only receive general feedback after your second failed attempt—and only if you specifically email info@ofai.ca to request it.
