OFAI Prep Course for the Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test (FACT)
The Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test (FACT) is the standardized written entry exam used by the Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI) to screen entry-level firefighter candidates.
This OFAI prep course is built for Stage One of the testing process used by 100+ Ontario municipal fire departments. The FACT is a pass/fail assessment with strict retake cooldowns, so preparation matters.
The course covers all five sections of the FACT: Reading Ability, Mathematical Reasoning, Map Reading, Writing Ability, and Personal Characteristics. Practice materials are structured to match the 110-question format and the 45/55 weighting between the aptitude and character sections, so you build both the cognitive skills and the self-awareness the test actually measures.

We've built this OFAI prep course to match the exact conditions of the FACT - the 110-question format, the 45/55 weighting between aptitude and Personal Characteristics, and the proctored computer lab environment. Work through the course and you will know precisely where you stand across all five sections before test day.
Why preparation matters: the FACT is pass/fail with strict retake cooldowns and no score feedback if you fail. Most candidates underestimate the Personal Characteristics section, which accounts for 55% of your result. Our scenarios are deliberately more demanding than the real exam so the actual test feels manageable.
Using our Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test (FACT) PrepPack, you get:
Employment exams have become an inescapable reality of job searches. While they streamline recruitment for employers, they often leave prospective employees vexed and frustrated.
At JobTestPrep, we aim to put the reins for your career back in your own hands by providing all the tools you need to confidently stride through the assessment and start your new job.
This PrepPack is built specifically for the Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test (FACT) administered by Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI). Every practice question, study guide, and video tutorial is aligned with the exact 110-question format used across Ontario: 15 Reading Ability questions, 15 Mathematical Reasoning questions, 10 Map Reading questions, 10 Writing Ability questions, and 60 Personal Characteristics questions, weighted 45% aptitude and 55% character assessment.
Unlike generic firefighter prep materials designed for U.S. exams (CPS, FCTC, FireTEAM), our FACT PrepPack mirrors the OFAI testing environment—proctored computer lab format, 3-hour time limit, and pass/fail scoring. We include Ontario-specific content covering the full OFAI recruitment pathway: Stage One (FACT), Stage Two (hearing, vision, encapsulated treadmill), and Stage Three (FPAT physical tests, technical skills). Whether you're applying to Toronto Fire Services, Brampton Fire & Emergency Services, Kitchener Fire Department, or any of the 100+ OFAI municipal partners across Ontario, this prep is designed for your exact test.
Most candidates underestimate the Personal Characteristics section, which carries 55% of your result. We recommend at least two to three weeks of focused preparation - one week on the aptitude sections (Reading, Math, Map Reading, Writing) and a full week on Personal Characteristics alone. If your test date is within a week, prioritise the SJT scenarios and timed practice under exam conditions.
Yes, and it is the most important part of your preparation. The Personal Characteristics section tests specific competencies - integrity, teamwork, stress tolerance, decision-making under authority - using situational judgment scenarios. Our course includes 60 practice questions mirroring the real format, with detailed explanations of which competency each scenario targets and why each answer ranks the way it does. This is the section most candidates ignore and most candidates fail on.
