The FRV Written Selection Test (WST) is a pre-employment assessment used by Fire Rescue Victoria to screen recruit firefighter candidates, covering Literacy, Abstract Reasoning, Numeracy, and Mechanical Reasoning.
The test runs about 2 hours and 5 minutes in total, with each of the four sections separately timed, and once a section ends you can't return to it. It's a competitive, time-pressured test rather than a specialist-knowledge one, roughly 70 seconds per question in three sections and 37 seconds per question in Mechanical Reasoning, so pacing trips up more candidates than the content itself. You can't bring your own calculator, but an onscreen one is provided for Numeracy. The WST is taken at ACER test centres across Victoria on scheduled dates, or online from home via live remote proctoring.

What are the Four Sections of the FRV Firefighter Test?
Mechanical Reasoning Test
Tests your ability to understand and apply basic mechanical and physical concepts, such as gears, levers, pulleys, wheels, and pressure, and to predict how a mechanical system will behave. 32 questions, 20 minutes.
Numeracy Test
Tests your ability to work through arithmetic, fractions, percentages, algebra, and measurement in real-world contexts, under a visible timer. You can't bring your own calculator, but an onscreen calculator is provided for this section. 30 questions, 35 minutes.
Literacy Test
Tests your ability to read and process written material efficiently, identify key details, and answer questions based on what's written, including some passages with graphs, charts, diagrams, or maps, under time pressure. 30 questions, 35 minutes.
Abstract Reasoning Test
Tests your ability to identify and complete sequences and patterns: recognising the rule governing a series of shapes and applying it to determine what comes next, what's missing, or what belongs in the middle. 30 questions, 35 minutes.

No. This PrepPack is built specifically for the Written Selection Test (WST), the Literacy, Abstract Reasoning, Numeracy, and Mechanical Reasoning sections. The Group Assessment, Physical Aptitude Test, and Personality Profile are separate stages of FRV's recruitment process, assessed differently, and aren't covered here.
FRV was formed from the former Melbourne Fire Brigade (MFB) and Country Fire Authority (CFA), and the WST is administered by ACER, the same body that delivered aptitude testing when FRV operated as MFB. If you're applying under the FRV name today, this PrepPack is built for the current WST format.

Scheduled my test 6 days before the closing window and prepared using Job Test Prep! Was able to score in the high 80s! Had I not prepared with these practices, I may have not score as high as I did! Also I would not have been prepared and confident as I was taking the test!
