The MFS Online Assessment and Psychometric Testing is a pre-employment assessment used by the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) to screen Full-Time Firefighter applicants, delivered online and completed unsupervised from home as Stage Three of the recruitment process - after the initial application and screening stages and before the in-person group exercises and Physical Aptitude Tests. MFS firefighters protect the community from the effects of fires, road crashes, dangerous substances, and other emergencies across metropolitan Adelaide and parts of regional South Australia. Successful recruits complete approximately 16 weeks of training, held mainly at the Angle Park Training Centre with additional components at the Adelaide Metropolitan Fire Station, before being posted as relievers across MFS metropolitan stations. Recruitment runs through a staged process: after submitting your online application and clearing initial screening (driver history, tattoo policy, and eligibility checks), applicants sit the online psychometric and aptitude test covered on this page. Candidates who clear this stage attend an in-person group exercise at an assessment centre, followed by the Physical Aptitude Test Stage 1 (PAT1), a progressive shuttle-run test requiring a level of 9.6 to pass. Next comes a panel interview using behavioural and situational questions, then the Physical Aptitude Test Stage 2 (PAT2), a pass/fail assessment of 11 simulated firefighting tasks completed within 32 minutes at the MFS Adelaide Fire Station. The process concludes with pre-employment checks, including medical examinations, an MR licence, National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, and referee checks.
