MFS firefighters protect the community from the effects of fires, road crashes, dangerous substances, and other emergencies across metropolitan Adelaide and parts of regional South Australia. Candidates who clear this stage attend an in-person group exercise at an assessment centre, followed by the Physical Aptitude Test Stage 1 (PAT1), a progressive shuttle-run test requiring a level of 9.6 to pass. Next comes a panel interview using behavioural and situational questions, then the Physical Aptitude Test Stage 2 (PAT2), a pass/fail assessment of 11 simulated firefighting tasks completed within 32 minutes at the MFS Adelaide Fire Station. The process concludes with pre-employment checks, including medical examinations, an MR licence, National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, and referee checks.
