The FRNSW online psychometric assessment is a pre-employment assessment used by Fire and Rescue NSW to screen recruit firefighter candidates, covering Cognitive Aptitude, Mechanical Reasoning, and Emotional Intelligence, delivered through the test provider Criteria.
The three tests run separately: the Cognitive Aptitude Test (CCAT) is 50 questions in 15 minutes, the Mechanical Reasoning Assessment (CMRA) is 30 questions in 15 minutes, and the Emotional Intelligence test (Emotify) is a game-based assessment made up of three interactive tasks taking around 20 minutes. It's a competitive, time-pressured set of tests rather than a specialist-knowledge one, so pacing and familiarity with the format matter as much as the content itself. The assessment is completed online from home, supported by live remote proctoring via webcam, microphone, and screen-sharing, alongside a separate video interview stage.
Our complete FRNSW PrepPack includes all three assessment sections plus video interview practice. It contains timed section simulations, a full psychometric assessment simulation, detailed answer explanations, and realistic assessment conditions, built to improve your pass rate on your first attempt.

We've created a comprehensive FRNSW prep course designed to help you succeed. Our course closely mimics the actual test conditions and platform, allowing you to identify and improve your weaker areas. With this focused preparation, you'll be confident and ready to excel on test day.
Why preparation matters: FRNSW's Cognitive Aptitude, Mechanical Reasoning, and Emotional Intelligence assessments are strictly timed and delivered remotely under live webcam supervision, with proctoring monitoring your screen, camera, and microphone throughout. There's no pausing the clock to think something through, and once a test ends you can't go back to it. Our practice tests are timed to match those same real conditions, so when assessment day comes, the pressure of the countdown and the proctor won't be something you're feeling for the first time.

At JobTestPrep, we've helped thousands of candidates pass competitive hiring assessments since 1992. Our materials are designed by psychometric experts and updated based on real candidate feedback to reflect the latest test formats.
Hi, I'm Yedidya. I hold a B.A. in Psychology and am currently pursuing an M.A. in Organizational Psychology with a focus on psychometric assessment and testing methodology. I've been with JobTestPrep since 2020, where I amassed significant experience in helping candidates ace their civil service exams and land their ideal jobs.
My expertise in cognitive assessment design and test-taking strategy directly informs the FRNSW firefighter examination preparation materials on this page. I've worked extensively with the cognitive frameworks underlying professional aptitude testing, particularly mechanical reasoning, cognitive aptitude, and emotional intelligence assessments. This experience allows me to create realistic practice materials that mirror the exact demands of FRNSW's Criteria-delivered psychometric testing and video interview stage.
This page provides comprehensive preparation for the FRNSW firefighter psychometric assessment, with practice questions calibrated to match official test difficulty, detailed explanations of reasoning patterns, and strategic guidance to help you achieve a competitive score.

As soon as you're invited to sit the WST. Give yourself enough time to work through each section individually first, so you can identify and shore up your weaker areas, then finish with the full simulation close to test day to build your pacing and stamina under real time pressure.
No. This PrepPack is built specifically for the Written Selection Test (WST), the Literacy, Abstract Reasoning, Numeracy, and Mechanical Reasoning sections. The Group Assessment, Physical Aptitude Test, and Personality Profile are separate stages of FRV's recruitment process, assessed differently, and aren't covered here.
FRV was formed from the former Melbourne Fire Brigade (MFB) and Country Fire Authority (CFA), and the WST is administered by ACER, the same body that delivered aptitude testing when FRV operated as MFB. If you're applying under the FRV name today, this PrepPack is built for the current WST format.
Start with the full simulation to see where you stand across all four sections under real time pressure. Then spend your remaining time on whichever section scored lowest, since each of the four components must individually meet the minimum standard to progress, so you can't rely on a strong section to offset a weak one.
The free questions give you a taste of the WST's format. This PrepPack goes much further: full-length timed practice tests for every section, a complete 132-question simulation of the entire WST, and detailed answer explanations for every question so you understand the reasoning behind each answer, not just whether you got it right.
You will have instant access to your PrepPack, which includes all your practice tests. You can start practicing immediately, learning from detailed explanations and guides, while tracking your performance with accurate, tailored questions to help you understand the correct approach to solving your assessment.
After your purchase, you will receive two emails. The first will contain your payment receipt, and the second will include a login link along with information about our general terms, conditions, and refund policy. To access your PrepPack, simply log in and reset your password. You can use the prep pack as many times as you want. Your progress is saved in your account, allowing you to revisit previous attempts.
