When a person works in a hot environment, the body must get rid of excess heat to maintain a stable internal temperature. It does this mainly through circulating blood to the skin and through sweating. When the air temperature is warm, cooling of the body becomes more difficult. When this happens, the body continues to store heat, and the person begins to lose concentration and has difficulty focusing on a task. Excessive exposure to heat requires immediate medical attention.

Which one of the following would best replace ’excess’ while maintaining the meaning of the passage?

Math Sample Question (Basic)

12.8 - 4.19 = ?

A. 8.11
B. 8.61
C. 7.99
D. 8.71
E. 7.61
Correct Answer
Incorrect Answer

This question can naturally be solved with a straightforward calculation, yielding 12.8 - 4.19 = 8.61.

However, we can solve this question much quicker by making a very slight change using estimation:

12.8 - 4.2

This drill is much more intuitive:

(12 - 4) = 8 ; (8 - 2) = 6 -> 8.6

So the answer is very close to 8.6, which leads us straight to the correct answer - 8.61.

The Millwright Aptitude Test Practice will teach you not only how to calculate, but how to calculate fast, with tricks such as the Last Digit Method and estimation.

Math Sample Question (Advanced)

x + y = 3.

5x2 + 10xy + 5y2 - 2(x+y) = ?

A. 39
B. 42
C. 46
D. 51
E. 55
Correct Answer
Incorrect Answer

The expression can be presented as:

5(x + y)2 -2(x + y)

That is because:

5x2 + 10xy + 5y2 = 5(x2 + 2xy + y2) = 5(x + y)2

Plugging in the value we know for x + y, we get:

5 x 32 - 2 x 3 = 5 x 9 - 6 = 39

Spatial Relations Sample Question

Feast Cube Test
A
B
C
D
Correct Answer
Incorrect Answer

If you rotate cube (C) 180 degrees clockwise so the purple facet is above the red facet, you can see that the green facet is to the left of the red facet like in the unfolded cube, making it the correct answer.

Answer (A) is incorrect because the red and dark blue facets are on opposite sides and can’t touch.

Answer (B) is incorrect because the purple and light blue facets are on opposite sides and can’t touch.

Answer (D) is incorrect because in the unfolded cube when the red facet is above the light blue facet, the green facet is to the left of the red facet and not to its right like in cube (D).

Science Sample Question

Shadows are ______ at sunrise, get ______ until noon, and then get ______ until sunset.

A. short, longer, shorter
B. long, shorter, longer
C. short, longer, longer still
D. long, shorter, shorter still
Correct Answer
Incorrect Answer

The lengths of shadows will always be longest at sunrise and sunset and shortest at midday.

That is due to the angle of the sunrays hitting the earth's surface. In the morning and evening, the sun is low in the sky, so the angle is significant and the shadows are long.

At noon the sun is located vertically above the earth's surface, so the angle is insignificant and the shadows are short.

Mechanical Aptitude Sample Question

In which way is the wagon accelerating? (If neither, mark C.)

Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test Sample Question - Velocity
A
B
C
Correct Answer
Incorrect Answer

The pendulum is moving backward; therefore, the car is accelerating in the opposite direction.

What happens when an object is in an accelerating system, in the same way, you feel pulled back when the car is speeding up or forwards when it is braking.

Remember the physical principle: When an object is within an accelerating system (another object that accelerates or decelerates), the inner object's force will be in the direction opposite to the acceleration.
