What is the EEI TECH Test Battery Format

The TECH test battery consists of four tests (or sections):

  1. Graphic Problem Solving (21 questions/19 minutes)
This test assesses one’s ability to utilize numerical information. The test taker is presented with illustrations, each containing numerical information, and is required to find the solution to practical arithmetic problems. The test taker is presented with 16 multiple-choice questions and is allotted 15 minutes to complete the test.
  2. Interpreting Diagrams (9 questions/9 minutes)
This test assesses one’s ability to utilize symbols and codes in order to find objects on a map or diagram, as well as to determine the object's status. The test taker is presented with two diagrams, each followed by eight multiple-choice questions (16 total), and is allotted 15 minutes to complete the test.
  3. Mechanical Concepts (44 questions/20 minutes)
This EEI TECH test assesses one’s ability to comprehend mechanical principles. Test takers are presented with 44 multiple-choice questions, each one relating to an included illustration of a mechanical situation. This test is to be completed within 20 minutes.
  4. Reasoning from Rules (9 questions/9 minutes)
This test assesses one’s ability to read and apply rules, and troubleshoot a logic network, as well as one’s decision-making skills. The test taker is presented with 15 multiple-choice questions and is allotted 15 minutes to complete the test.

EEI Test Main Challenges

EEI tech tests are challenging because they combine four different types of questions and are timed. This means you need to handle many concepts and principles quickly. It's not just about knowing the principles; you also need to answer the questions quickly enough to get through all of them in the allotted time.

Practicing is a key component of this test. To help you understand the different types and to start practicing, let's go over the four sections and see example questions and explanations.

EEI Tech Test Sample Questions and Answers

Mechanical Reasoning

In this EEI TECH test assessment, you are tested on your understanding of mechanical concepts and principles. These principles include:

  • Centrifugal Force
  • Gears
  • Gravity
  • Levers
  • Pulleys
  • Shapes

And many others besides. For each question, there are three possible answers, and you have to work fast in order to answer all the questions within the allotted time. 44 questions in only 20 minutes give you less than 30 seconds per question.

In which of the following positions would the tractor be less stable when taking a turn?

CAST free test

A
B
The same
Correct Answer
Incorrect Answer

As you can see, the only difference between the two figures is the position of the tractors shovel. In figure A the shovel is lowered, while in Figure B the shovel is raised. The raising of the shovel will also raise the point of the center of mass of the tractor. When the center of mass of the tractor is higher, the tractor loses some stability (A good example could be the difference between a semi-trailer and a sports car. The tall and narrow semi-trailer has a higher point of center of mass and is less stable than the low lying, flat and wide sports car which has a lower point of center of mass).

Since in Figure B the shovel is raised, it is less stable. Therefore, choice B is the correct answer.

Graphic Problem Solving

This test examines your ability to solve practical arithmetic problems based on information presented in graphs and illustrations. The test includes graphs and illustrations, each followed by several questions. Your task is to choose the best answer of the four options.

What is the compression factor of oxygen under a pressure of 2 psi?

Interpreting Diagrams

This test examines your ability to use symbols and codes to locate objects on a diagram or map and to determine the objects’ status.

You will be presented with a diagram/map followed by several questions. In each question, you need to choose the best answer of the four options.

Carefully read the legend assigned to the diagram/map before answering the questions

Reasoning from Rules

This test examines your ability to read and understand rules and to apply them to make decisions.

You will be presented with sets of rules and situations, each followed by several questions. Carefully go over the rules and use them to choose the correct answer from the four options.

Make sure not to draw on previous knowledge or experience and only use the rules presented in the test.

You are responsible for a clean room for running chemical tests. The following is the standard protocol in case of contamination.

1. If the contaminating chemical is not listed in the HCL-2017 list, contact a lab technician to run the NHC50P test:
1.1  If the NHC50P test result is below 50%, contact the shift manager, cease work for one hour, and request a cleaning crew. Record the incident in the safety log.
1.2  If the NHC50P test result is above 50%, contact the head scientist, cease work for three hours, and request a cleaning crew. Record the incident in the safety log.

2. If the contaminating chemical is listed in the HCL-2017 list:
2.1 If the chemical has an STR ranking of 4 and below, contact the shift manager and then begin extensive cleaning protocol. Record the incident in the safety log and the company's QA log.
2.2. If the chemical has an STR ranking of 5 and above, initiate immediate lockdown before contacting the shift manager and head scientist. Record the incident in the safety log and the company's QA log and open an SI report.

3. If the contaminating chemical is a neutral substance, defined as water, oxygen, or hydrogen, contact the shift manager, cease work for 30 minutes, and ask for a cleaning crew.

4. The following is the only exception to the above rules:
Declare emergency when:
1. The contaminating chemical is from an external source, OR
2. There is more than one contaminating chemical, OR
3. The contaminating chemical was recorded in the safety log in the last 24 hours.

In case of emergency, act as in case of a contaminating chemical with an STR rating of 5 and above.

A single contaminating chemical from an internal source was found. The first thing you should do is:

Call the head scientist
Check the safety log
Initiate immediate lockdown
Check if the chemical is in the HCL-2017 list
Correct Answer
Incorrect Answer

The correct answer is B.

The first thing you should do when discovering a contaminating chemical is to decide whether it is an emergency. There are three cases of emergency:
1.The contaminating chemical is from an external source, OR
2.There is more than one contaminating chemical, OR
3.The contaminating chemical was recorded in the safety log in the last 24 hours.

Since the text explicitly states the two first cases are not applicable, the only one left to check is case 3, which requires looking in the safety log.

What is the EEI TECH Test Passing Score?

You are given a single index score between 1-10. You should aim to score at least 8-9 in order to give yourself the best chance of moving forward in your application. The EEI TECH test  scoring is done both by machine and by hand. The overall score is obtained by combining the scores of each test.
