The Border Patrol Entrance Exam measures a candidate's mental ability to serve as a Border Patrol Agent. The exam takes between four to six hours to complete; and dives into logical reasoning, work style (personal assessment), and foreign language competency.
The Border Patrol Entrance Exam is made up of three tests and a personal assessment:
The Logical Reasoning Test is designed to measure a candidate’s ability to understand complicated written material while drawing conclusions from it.
Each question contains a reading passage followed by a statement or question and five possible responses. Candidates are asked to either draw a valid conclusion from the passage or determine that the given statement cannot be validly concluded.
This part of the exam requires careful reading and focus. Although the passages contain information relating to the work of border patrol agents or the federal government, candidates are not being tested on their knowledge of the facts, but rather on their critical thinking skills and their ability to draw conclusions from the given material. Note that there is no penalty for guessing. Learn more about The Border Patrol Logical Reasoning Test
The Spanish Language Proficiency Test was designed for those candidates who are already familiar with the Spanish language. All Border Patrol Agent applicants are either required to know Spanish or able and willing to learn.
This test is divided into two sections: a vocabulary section and a three-part grammar section.
The Artificial Language Test (ALT) is taken by those candidates who do not yet know Spanish. The exam is designed to assess the test taker's willingness and ability to learn a new language (in this particular case, Spanish).
The actual test is composed of an artificial or invented language with a vocabulary list and glossary of grammatical rules available.
Personal assessments are an examination of job-related experiences and achievements. Be sure to give honest and straightforward answers and to check the job requirements beforehand in case you need to bring assisting or required documents.
