The GED stands for General Education Development or General Education Diploma. It was created by Pearson to help adults earn their high school diploma so that they can gain employment or continue their education.


GED Test

The GED test contains four different topics which follow the Career and College Ready Standards.

Mathematical Reasoning (115 minutes)- This section measures your quantitative & algebraic problem solving skills. The GED testing services uses an on-screen calculator for this test on computer.

Science (90 minutes)- This section tests your knowledge in life science, physical science, earth and space science.

Social Studies (70 minutes)- This test, measures your knowledge in civics and government, U.S. history, economics, geography and the world.

Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) (150 minutes)- The RLA tests your ability to read closely, write clearly, and edit and understand written text. The essay has no minimum or maximum. However, it is strongly encouraged to write enough to fully respond to the prompts they have been given.

The test is made up of the following types of questions: multiple choice, drag and drop. hot spot (select an area), fill in the blank, short answer and an extended response.

To pass the GED, you need to gain a score of 145.


GED Equivalent Tests

If you are interested in taking a GED equivalent test you can take either the TASC or HiSET.

The TASC was designed by DTC|CTB to test basic knowledge and skills for those who are college and career ready. There are five test sections on the TASC: Reading, Math, Social Studies and Writing. Learn more about the TASC here.
