Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Hiring Process

If you wish to have a career with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, there are many stages in their recruitment process that you should consider. You will find more details regarding the recruitment procedures at the FLPD below:

  • Qualifications: Prior to submitting your application to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Human Resources Department you will need to make sure that you meet all of the requirements to be considered a “Certified Applicant”. If you are a “Non-Certified Applicant”, the FLPD may sponsor you through the Police Academy.
  • CJBAT Assessment: Another measure prior to submitting your application will be to take the Florida Criminal Justice Basic Ability Test (CJBAT). By passing this assessment you will be able to continue in the FLPD recruitment process.
  • Application Process: In order to apply for one of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department employment opportunities, you will need to create an account directly from the City of Fort Lauderdale’s jobs website.
  • Interviews: If you have met all of the requirements necessary to be considered for a police officer role with the City of Fort Lauderdale, you will be invited to participate in a board interview.

Fort Lauderdale Police Department CJBAT Test

Aside for your BMST (Basic Motor Skills Test)/ Physical Agility and Swim Test, you will need to pass the written CJBAT (Florida Criminal Justice Basic Ability Test). The CJBAT is comprised of different sections, including written comprehension, deductive/ inductive reasoning, problem sensitivity, etc.

The passing score for the IO Solutions CJBAT is a 79% and 75% for the Morris & McDaniel version of the test.
