Kentucky Firefighter Exams

Each Kentucky fire department may choose which exam they require you to take in order to become a firefighter. The exam may be provided by an assessment company. Find out which exam your department requires you to take to get you one step closer to becoming a firefighter.


Lexington

The Lexington Fire Department requires you to take IO Solutions NFSI. The exam will last for 2 hours and 30 minutes. You will need a score of 70% or higher to pass. This exam is divided into two sections: Cognitive and Personality.

The Cognitive section includes 105 questions spread out over 8 sections: verbal comprehension, verbal expression, problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, information ordering, mathematical reasoning and number facility items.

The Personality section is a job-related personality attribute, which includes 50 items, consisting of stress tolerance, team orientation, and motivation/attitude.


Louisville

To join the Louisville Fire Department, you will need to take the ALARM written exam. The written exam consists of four test sections: Reading Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Mechanical Reasoning, and Table Interpretation. There are 100 multiple-choice questions, which you will be given 2 hours to complete.
