About

Jobs at tech companies are highly-sought after for their lucrative salaries and potential for promotion. Since these jobs are so in-demand, tech companies have their pick of the litter when hiring new employees. To ensure your success in your interviews and assessment tests for companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, and Google, practice using JobTestPrep's Tech Bundle.

What Is the Hiring Process in the Tech Industry?

The hiring process is similar for most jobs, although the assessment tests you have to take vary depending on the position to which you are applying.

  1. Submit an online application detailing your work history and education.
  2. Take online assessment tests. These assessment tests may include reading, math, and spelling tests, personality tests, mechanical aptitude tests, and situational judgment tests, depending on the position to which you are applying.
  3. Complete a phone or video interview. This is a basic interview to verify the information you provided in your application and to expand on your motivation for applying to the position and company.
  4. Be invited for an in-person interview: in this interview, you will be asked mainly behavioral questions. You should answer questions according to the S.T.A.R. format:

S: state the situation

T: explain your task(s)

A: describe the actions you took

R: summarize the result

  1. Complete an interview with human resources.
  2. If you are applying for a warehouse/maintenance or technician position, you may have to pass tests that evaluate your physical abilities, such as a pole climbing test.
