Civil Service Exam for Rochester

The written test is neither a general abilities exam nor an IQ test. Each civil service test is job-related. The passages and questions are based on actual entry-level job tasks and requirements.

While most questions are multiple-choice, you may also encounter short answer or essay questions. Written exams contain various sections, one of which deals with grammar, punctuation, spelling and English usage.

NYS Department of Civil Service generally provides the various exams, as well as processing, rating and analyzing all civil service tests throughout the State of New York. The tests in each Municipality and County are administered under the umbrella of the NYS Civil Service Rules & Regulations. It is, however, the Rochester Municipal Commission that establishes the eligibility list in accordance with Rochester Civil Service exam scores.

Research has proven that stress during tests leads to lower scores. You can combat the tension by familiarizing yourself beforehand with question type and exam format through practice on sample tests, Q & A analysis, review of a study guide and helpful exam strategies. Using these test preparation tools, you have the opportunity to increase your time and accuracy. JobTestPrep has worked to provide an excellent NY Civil Service Exam prep system.
