California Department of Corrections’s Hiring Process

The CDCR hiring process is slightly different than your run of the mill hiring process for many companies. As it is a state governmental department, there are many things that you will need to take into consideration throughout the CDCR recruitment process.

  • Application Process: Prior to being able to submit your application and resume, you may be required to take a pre-hire exam. Once you have passed the pre-employment entrance exam, you will be prompted to complete your online application and upload your resume. You can find more information regarding this process directly from the CDCR careers webpage. You will be able to use the same CDCR application to apply for multiple positions.
  • Phone Screening: Once your pre-hire assessment and application have been submitted and you have made it to the eligibility list, you should receive an invitation to participate in a phone interview. Phone interviews are often used to gauge your interest in the role, as well as your suitability.
  • In-Person Interviews: If you have successfully passed all of the previous stages of the CDCR hiring process, you will then be invited engage in one or more face-to-face interviews. Your interviews will either be held in a one-on-one setting, however, many roles may require a group or panel-style interviews.

The specific test or tests that you will need to take during the CDCR recruitment process will be determined by the role you have applied for. Your interviews with the CDCR will most likely be held before a panel of managers.
